IFCout Help

After installing IFCout for AutoCAD Plant3D ,plain AutoCAD or any other vertical, the following ribbon appears in AutoCAD main ribbon

units.jpg

Units:

Allows you to specify the current drawing file linear units. IFC exports in metric millimeters is the default. It is important to make sure that you specify the correct units of the drawing you want to export as well as the IFC file units. It is possible for example that your drawing units are in inches and you want to export the IFC file in millimeters. Check "Do not ask me again", if you want to set the units for future exports. You can always run this command again and reset the units.

Settings:

The settings dialog box allows you to specify many optional settings. These options vary between AutoCAD PLANT3D and other verticals including PLAIN AutoCAD.

GENERAL

The 'General' Tab of the Settings dialog box allows you to set these settings:

Max. Number of Faces/Surfaces:

For surface meshing, a higher value results in a smoother surface. However, this may increase export time and the size of the resulting IFC file.

Optimize File Size :

Enable this option to reduce the IFC file size.
In rare cases, this may result in additional geometry. If file size is not a concern, you may leave this option unchecked.

Export Layer :

Enable this option to export the layer name associated with each entity.

Export Insulation Graphics :

Enable this option to include pipe insulation graphics in the exported model, if available. When enabled, you can also define the Transparency (%) for the insulation graphics. To match the insulation color with the pipe color, enable the "Use Pipe Color" option. Click Select Color button if you choose to give the insulation a different color.

Show Color :

Enable this option to export entity colors.
If left unchecked, all exported models will appear in gray.

Export Only Properties with values :

Enable this option to Export Only Properties with values

Include AutoCAD Primitive Entitles :

Enable this option to export AutoCAD primitive entities, such as lines, solids, blocks, and others.

Export Default Properties:

By default, all properties of each entity are exported.
To filter properties or export them as custom tabs, use the two options below.

Export Saved Properties

The Properties tab allows you to select either predefined filtered properties or custom property tabs.

Export Saved Properties:

This option lets you filter properties and save the selection to a file. This file can be shared with other users and modified at any time. Only the properties specified in this file will be exported.

Types List:

Displays all component types. The "ALL" option at the top shows all PLANT3D properties as displayed in the dialog. The remaining types list only the properties that were modified or added through Project Setup in PLANT3D.

Filter:

Filters the displayed properties based on the text you enter in the filter box.

Exported Properties:

This option lets you include filtered properties in a file that can be saved for reuse. The file selected under "Saved Properties File to Use" contains all the filtered properties to be exported. The list shown displays the contents of this file.

  • Add: Add one or more properties from the list above to the filtered list (use Ctrl or Shift to select multiple).

  • Remove: Remove selected properties from the filtered list.

  • Open: Load a previously saved properties file.

  • Save: Save the currently opened properties file.

  • Save As: Save the current file under a new name.

  • Delete: Permanently delete the currently opened file.

  • Modify: Edit the value of a selected property in the filtered list.

Set:

Click this button to set this file as the default for future exports. You won’t need to select it again unless changes are made later in the Settings dialog.

Export Custom Tabs Properties

Export Custom Tabs Properties:

This option lets you export properties in the form of more than one tab. The Top section is the same as the 'Export Saved Properties' option.

Custom Tabs:

Custom Tabs Properties are saved in a file that can be used for the export.

Add:

Allows you to create a new Tab name.

Modify:

Allows you to modify an existing Tab name.

Remove:

Removes an existing Tab name.

Open:

Loads a previously saved Custom Tabs File.

Save:

Saves the currently opened file.

Save As:

Saves the currently opened file to a different name.

After you create a Tab Name you can assign/Remove properties using the same "Add" and "Remove" button as mentioned in the 'Export Saved Properties' option.

Set:

Click this button to set this file as the default for future exports. You won’t need to select it again unless changes are made later in the Settings dialog.

NOTE:

You can only use one of these 3 properties export options at a time.

Properties for NON-PLANT3D

For all non-PLANT3D versions, this dialog box appears to let you select XDATA to export.
The list displays all available XDATA applications present in the currently opened drawing.

Set:

Click this button to apply your selection.

View:

This is a visibility control tool that allows you to isolate, show, or hide entities in the current drawing based on their type or line number (for Plant3D).
Once the desired entities are visible, you can use the IFCout export tool (see below) to export only those visible entities.

  • Isolate: Displays only the entities specified by type, line number (Plant3D), or both.

  • Hide / Show: Hides or shows selected entities based on the same criteria.

  • Show All: Reveals all entities in the current drawing.

  • Show Steel Members / Hide Steel Members: Specifically shows or hides steel members (Plant3D only).

  • You can also choose whether to include steel members or just piping components in your visibility settings.

Export:

This dialog allows you to export the currently opened drawing to an IFC file.

  • Browse: Opens a file dialog to specify the destination and name of the IFC file.

  • Export Options: Choose to export all entities, selected entities from the graphic screen, or only visible entities.

  • IFC Format: Select the IFC version to export to.

Note (for Plant3D users): Ensure that all specifications referenced by the entities you want to export are loaded into the current drawing.

  • The current scale factor set by the UNITS command is displayed in red.

  • The Property Export Option is displayed.

  • To move the model to the origin (0,0,0) in the IFC file, enable the Move to Origin checkbox. Note: AutoCAD primitive entities will not be transformed.

  • To export all components as MESH surfaces, check Export as MESH Surfaces. This is recommended for complex geometry, as it improves export efficiency.

Export All:

This dialog allows you to export multiple drawing files either as individual IFC files or combined into a single IFC file.

  • Drawing Folder: Navigate to the folder containing the drawings you want to export.

  • IFC Export Files Folder Location: Select the folder where individual IFC files will be saved.

  • IFC Export Combined File Name: Specify the name and location for the combined IFC file that will include the selected drawings.

  • Check Project Files to Export: Displays a list of available drawing files. Check the drawings you wish to export—either as separate IFC files or combined into one IFC file.

Manual:

This dialog allows you to manually export specific types of piping components or primitive AutoCAD entities.

  • Browse: Navigate to the location where you want to save the IFC file.

  • Check All / Uncheck All: Quickly select or deselect all entity types listed above.

  • Only the checked entity types will be exported.
